My China Cabinet

Growing up in the 80’s and 90’s of course was very different than today. Some of my fondest memories with family was spending time with my grandma and grandpa who lived about 40 min away. My grandmother in particular believed in many things including family comes first, manners are a must, and looking your best was a sign of respect. My grandma loved to cook but also host friends and family. This might explain why she not only had a formal dinning room but also two very large china cabinets filled with amazing things.

The largest section was filled with dinner and salad plated with her favorite Royal Albert china pattern Old Country Rose.

There were these white goose napkin holders but she had tied colored ribbons around their necks. Green glasses made of milk glass that my older ½ brother was particularly fond of. Fancy crystal goblet drinking glasses and even salt and pepper shakers.

For special occasions she would bust out the sterling silver silverware which as stored in this massive wooden velvet lined box. Fun to use but always to be hand washed and polished.

When ever she would let me set the table and let me pick what dinner plates we would use, I was always fond of these plates with this brown asian inspired pattern. Since they passed and all their things were either given to family or sold, I have not been able to find that pattern again. The closets I have seen is is a pattern from a company called Sone. I remember it being very simple and more like they used watercolor to paint the images.

Unfortunately, there were so many items behind those glass doors and there are no loner any photographs to jog my memory. Being that my grandma was born in tiny town in Oklahoma, she was a farm girl at heart but her life experience has moulded her to be so much more. She loved to have tea and visit tea rooms when she traveled. She might not have lived in a fancy castle, but her dinner tables would always impress.

Let Me Introduce You to, My China Cabinet!

My china cabinet is black of course and and just like my grandma’s, is filled with all sorts of things. Some new and others old. My favorite thing are my Royal Albert tea cups in the Regal Series Black pattern. Sometimes I picture having friends over for a modern tea party with vintage vibes that the Mad Hatter would love to join if he was in town.

Most of the items are from Amazon, but you will find items from H&M Home, Anthropology, and even a few art pieces or trinkets I have picket up over time. There also a pink tipped rose that reminds me of one you would have seen in my grandparent garden.

My most recent addition was this vintage set of Japanese zebra salt and pepper shakers which I believe were from the 60’s that I got from a well known antique shop in McKinney, TX I go to once ever so often.

I’m in my early 40’s now so I can only image that by the time I’m 60’s when my grandmothers china cabinet was still being filled, just what my china cabinet will look like then. As like hers, I hope it’s filled with things I get to continue to share with my family along with little magical things that I might get to share with my nieces and nephews as they grown up.

Cheers!
